CSU Global offers an online writing center to help enrich the community in learning, teaching, and research through engaged writing practices. We provide resources and support for all writers – from students to faculty and staff – in the CSU Global community to foster academic excellence and creativity. We do this through one-on-one tutoring and resources designed to strengthen academic reading, writing, critical thinking, and research skills.
The CSU Global Writing Center offers free one-on-one virtual tutoring. You will be connected with a writing tutor, using a shared whiteboard where you can ask and get answers to your questions. The whiteboard lets you type, paste information from a document, and upload PDFs or other documents for your tutor in a live interaction. You can schedule a session, do a drop-in, or ask a question through our virtual tutoring center.
If you have a draft you would like to submit for review, the writing center allows you to upload an essay, along with the assignment description, and select areas where you need assistance, such as the main idea/thesis, content development, organization, use of resources, and more. You can even select a tutor who specializes in your area, such as ESL or business or creative writing.
As a CSU Global student, you have access to a number of writing tutorials through the writing center that can help you develop your writing, from conception to academic citation. You can access the following writing tutorial topics at any time through the student portal:
CSU Global students are expected to use APA style for written assignments. Using a specific style guide can be tricky.
The writing center connects you with APA resources to guide you through formatting and implementing in-text and reference list citations, and provides sample APA documents to ensure you are successful in following APA style.
The CSU Global Writing Center also offers trained CSU Global faculty coaches to provide guidance on assignments and specific insights on CSU Global’s APA requirements.
Coaching sessions are conducted live; students log in, choose video and audio options, and upload the assignment file to the whiteboard. Each student and faculty coach work together with face-to-face, voice-to-voice, and text chat options to discuss the project and make changes together.
Appointments must be scheduled at least 2 days in advance, and are offered free of charge.
The writing center walks you through tips for success for the different types of writing assignments you will encounter as a CSU Global student. These typical assignments include:
The writing center helps you decipher expectations, use appropriate academic writing style, provide evidence for arguments, and practice APA style for each of these types of writing to guide you toward effective written communication.
The writing center guides students in utilizing library resources to support their academic writing goals. This includes research guides, processes, and tutorials; research consultations; database access; and document delivery to support academic discovery for students, staff, and faculty.
When you attend CSU Global, you can reap the benefits of a robust writing center to support your academic writing needs.
